Do you need an architect?

The simple answer is not always. If you already know exactly what you want then an architectural technician or even a design and build company may be the best route for you.

Architects are trained to find imaginative solutions to problems, and bring a knowledge of the entire planning and building process to ease your journey through what is for most, a large financial undertaking. They are experts at co-ordinating the different consultants to ensure the design goals are met and the vision is achieved. The investment in design, and one that is personal to you and/or tailored to your needs is the key to a successful project and getting the most out of your investment.

How we work

Architects and most industry professionals adhere to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) “Plan of Work” as a defined process and guide to creating a new building all the way from from deciding to appoint an architect to living in your new home. You can find the full Plan of Work here.

It can be a complicated process to follow, but for the purposes of designing and building or extending a home, it can be simplified and summarised as below.
We will explain clearly how we can work you by stage or on a whole project basis in our initial consultation.

Design

Good design lies at the crossroads of artistry and practicality; a seamless fusion of aesthetic appeal and functional efficiency that enhances our everyday experiences. A well-designed object, whether it be a building, garden or piece of furniture, will continually delight.

The guiding principal at Studio Barn is practical, timeless design that is appropriate for the context and ecologically sensitive. A good design that stands the time of time is always ultimately better for the planet.
